What is Reiki?
Reiki involves a practitioner using their hands to transfer universal life force energy to promote physical and emotional wellbeing. It was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century and has been taught and used in the UK since the late 1900s.
Reiki aims to promote relaxation, assisting in the body’s natural healing processes. It can create a feeling of deep relaxation, helping you to cope with difficult situations, relieve emotional stress and tension and help improve wellbeing.
Reiki works alongside conventional medical treatment. You do not need to be ill or distressed to benefit. It is safe for adults, children, pregnant women, babies and animals.
It is also easy to learn Reiki for self-healing and to help friends and family and I am trained to teach others how.
It is important to note that Reiki should not be used as an alternative to medical treatment but can work in harmony with ongoing treatment, under the supervision of your doctor and practitioner.
Treatment
You will remain fully clothed throughout, lying on a treatment plinth or sitting in a chair if you prefer. I will work with my hands either on or slightly above the body, usually starting at the head and shoulders.
Typically, clients will feel deeply relaxed during a treatment and may drift off to sleep.
You may feel heat or a tingling sensation.
Clients will usually feel peaceful and calm after a treatment and it is advisable to drink plenty of water.
A single Reiki session can make a difference. A course or regular treatments may be more effective and a treatment plan will be discussed with you depending on your own needs and preferences.
Distant Healing: Reiki can be sent at a distance wherever you live.
I have been practising Reiki for 10 years and regularly attend Reiki courses to refresh and update my skills. Since September 2025, I having been volunteering as a Reiki Practitioner at the Fountain Centre, an independent charity supporting cancer patients and their loved ones based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. I am a member of the UK Reiki Federation and fully insured.
Due to the many benefits I have experienced in my own life as a result of practising Reiki, I love sharing it with others and can’t wait to share it with you!

Reiki is effective for
Deep relaxation
Deep Relaxation: This is the most common benefit. It helps switch the body from “fight or flight” mode to a “rest and digest” state.
Stress and anxiety relief
Stress and Anxiety Relief: By promoting a sense of calm, it can help people cope with overwhelming situations, such as a difficult diagnosis or a high-stress lifestyle.
Improving sleep
Improving Sleep: Many people find that the deep relaxation experienced during and after a session leads to better quality sleep.
Pain management
Pain Management: While it doesn’t treat the cause of pain, it can help reduce the perception of pain and the tension associated with it.
Emotional support
Emotional Support: It is often used to help process grief, low mood, or the emotional toll of chronic illness.
